Co-ops and Tutorials

Homeschool Co-ops are organizations where parents share responsibility of teaching classes to fellow homeschoolers' children, from 1 day a week to several. Tutorials are classes in which students are enrolled, tuition is paid, and parents are not required to teach.

Created For a Purpose Cooperative, The Church at Shelby Crossings, Calera
CAP meets from 12:15 to 3:30 required core classes (9:30 to 12:15 electives) on Tuesdays. Students receive history and fine arts education, and may also choose electives of science, literature, and creative writing. There is a yearly building fee and monthly fee of $20 for the director's salary. One parent from each family is required to assist, teach, or contribute in some way. Chelsea Tutorials, Chelsea
Chelsea Tutorials provides classes to support the home-educated student. We are now accepting registrations for the 2012-2013 school year. Cornerstone Cooperative, Helena 
We call ourselves a cooperative, but we fall more in the enrichment and tutorials vein. We meet one day a week at this time. Master's Enrichment Co-opMcCalla

CORE - a homeschool high school for grades 7 - 12 that anyone from any cover school can join. There is tuition per class. Classes are Tues and Fri and include most high school core subjects with foreign language and a few other choice electives. It is taught by teachers that have also homeschooled or have been homeschooled. Grades are kept by the teachers and given to the parents to turn in. All work and tests are given by the teachers and graded by the teachers. There is homework to be completed at home to turn in for a grade. It is located in Moody at Community Presbyterian Church and Crossroads Christian School.

Classical Conversations is a tutoring community using the Classical Method with a Biblical Worldview. Although only finishing its 2nd year in Alabama, this program has been around for 19 years. Next fall, Birmingham area groups will be meeting in Pelham, Hoover, Trussville/Argo, Gardendale, and Pell City.

Creative Scholars Inc. 
ART..LITERATURE..MUSIC..HISTORY..DRAMA..WRITING
Are you searching for a homeschool co-op with cool creative arts?......awesome academics?....terrific teachers?......reasonable rates?  If so, Creative Scholars, Inc., a new homeschool co-op in Homewood, offers a history-based curriculum with history, literature/writing, music, art, and drama classes for elementary through high school students on Mondays.  Also, offered on Mondays is an Elementary science class with a math/book club for grades 1-6.  On Wednesdays, academic classes in math, science and other subjects are offered for grades 7-12.  For elementary students, private sessions in math and reading are taught on Wednesdays by an Orton-Gillingham trained instructor.
